The Mitutoyo 2046A is an analogue dial indicator in accordance with the EN ISO standard, with a measuring range of 0-10 mm and a division of 0.01 mm, with a measuring range per revolution of 1 mm. The dial has a scale of 0-100 / 100-0 and an outer diameter of 57 mm. The indicator has a diameter 8 mm stem and a lug attachment on the back, which allows the indicator to be mounted on stands and measurement jigs. The contact point is made of carbide and has an M2.5 × 0.45 mm thread. The measuring force is typically around 0.4-1.4 N and the indicator has specified accuracy values, including a maximum error of 5 µm (1/10 turn), 9 µm (1/2 turn), 10 µm (1 turn) and 13 µm over the entire 10 mm measuring range, and repeatability and hysteresis of up to 3 µm. There are no through-bolts in the body, and the sealing of the bezel and glass, together with the O-ring, limits the penetration of water and oil from the front; the dial gauge weighs approximately 145 g.

The dial gauge is suitable for general length and displacement measurements in machine shops and the metal industry, where a measuring range of 0-10 mm and a 0.01 mm graduation to metric dimensions are required. The product is used in process and final inspection in manufacturing industry and in jigs and benches in quality control and measurement laboratories where an EN ISO type dial gauge and specified MPE values are required. In addition, the dial gauge is suitable for service and maintenance work for alignment, clearance and displacement measurements of machinery and equipment, where the dial gauge is to be fixed to magnetic feet or racks by means of a diameter 8 mm stem and a lug attachment.
