The Mitutoyo 7212A is a mechanical depth gauge with a measuring element consisting of a dial indicator and a rectangular base. The reference surface of the base plate is hardened, precision ground and micro-polished, providing a very flat and reliable reference surface for depth measurements. This design ensures reproducible measurement results when measuring depths of drilled holes, narrow grooves and step-like features, for example.

With a measuring range of 0-200 mm and a scale division of 0.01 mm, it is sufficient for most machining and installation measurements. The dial indicator has a stroke length of 10 mm. The base measures 101.6 × 16 mm and has a flatness of 5 µm, as stated by the manufacturer. The depth gauge is equipped with a spherical contact point with a radius of 1.5 mm; it is also well suited for narrow points. With an accuracy of ±0.015 mm, the system meets the precision requirements for even the most demanding machine shop tasks.

Five extension rods (10, 20, 30, 30 and 100 mm) are supplied to adapt the measuring range to different applications. The product is supplied in a box and the set includes a lever for lifting the spindle, a carbide-tipped contact point and a dial indicator. The total weight is approximately 310 g, making the tool sturdy and comfortable to use even during extended measurement sessions.
