The Mitutoyo 7218A is a rectangular dial indicator depth gauge designed for accurate depth measurements in applications such as measuring holes, grooves, and steps. The reference surface of the base plate is hardened, precision ground, and micro-polished, providing a very flat and reliable reference surface for measurements. The measurement is based on an analogue dial gauge with an inch scale: the measuring range is 0-8" and the accuracy of the division is 0.001". The dial gauge has a stroke length of 1", and the measurement system has an accuracy of ±0.002 inches, making the instrument well-suited for demanding precision measurements in engineering and production environments. The flatness of the base is 5 µm, supporting overall measurement accuracy.

The depth gauge is equipped with a spherical contact tip with a radius of 1.5 mm and a carbide contact tip. This tip is highly resistant to abrasion and suitable for repeated use, even in narrow grooves and along edges. The gauge uses Mitutoyo's 2904AB series dial indicator, which provides a clear and easy-to-read dial. With an overall weight of approximately 320 grams, the instrument is rigid in use, yet light enough to handle and move from one workstation to another.

The Mitutoyo 7218A is supplied in a box without the lever arm but comes with a carbide-tipped ball contact element and three extension rods, 1", 2", and 4" long. These extension rods allow the measuring depth range can be extended and adapted for various applications.
