Privacy filters for monitors are designed for use with standalone computer displays and monitors where it is desired to restrict the visibility of screen content from the sides. The filter is sized according to the screen's viewing area so that it covers the actual display surface without extending unnecessarily to the edges of the monitor. The filter restricts the viewing angle of the screen so that the content is clearly visible only when viewed directly from the front. When viewed from the side, the image darkens significantly or becomes invisible altogether. This reduces the risk of confidential information being exposed to outsiders, for example in open-plan offices, customer service areas, or public work environments. Privacy filters are commonly used with workstations and desktop monitors where the display is a separate unit. The filter is attached to the front of the monitor using adhesive strips, magnets, or other lightweight fastening solutions so that it covers only the active display area.
