Load-holding valves are used in applications where the load needs to be moved in a controlled manner. Similar to pressure control check valves, load-holding valves are also completely tight when closed, and only the control pressure opens the return line of the actuator. Load-holding valves are also used to prevent loads on cylinders or motors dropping in an uncontrolled manner.
In addition to managing load, load-holding valves work as shock valves when they begin to open in their setting value, and similar to lock valves, these valves also prevent loads from falling in case of hose ruptures.
It is recommended to place load-holding valves in immediate vicinity of the actuator.
The required control pressure can be calculated by deducting pressure caused by the load from the valve set pressure and dividing this with pressure ratio plus one.
